Let me qualify myself, I have been serving the outdoor billboard since 1963.
I started out working for a small Florida outdoor billboard company in central Florida, I remember my first day at work. I was all excited about my new job by the end of the day I was ready to walk.
The owner sent me and his foreman out to do start a new billboard in the middle of nowhere. This foreman laid out the location and where the telephone poles would go that support the billboard.
He marked the holes and said start digging these dig these six holes I must go back to the shop I will be right back. The holes were two-foot by six foot deep. in those days we dug holes by hand with post hole diggers.
It was a hot July day, he left me with no water, I had no gloves and guess what he did not return until late that afternoon. It turned out the holes were in clay and lime stone. I am in an open field with no trees and no transportation in the middle of nowhere.
By mid afternoon I had the holes
dug, I was sunburned with some of the largest blisters I ever had on my hands, needless to say I may be tough but I am not stupid.
Lesson learned, I could have walked off the job that first day but I am not a quitter. I was there to learn everything I could about the outdoor advertising business.

this time I was running two highway billboard construction crews, one billboard pain crew and the shop crew.
By the end of the third year I gave notice and left the company to build my own billboard company.
Once open in few months it took off like crazy before I knew it many of the accounts in the area started coming over to my company.
Not because I knew everyone, because I was honest and I turned
out a quality product with quality service.
Most of men that worked for the
other billboard company applied for jobs at one time or another I hired a few of them including the former owner of the other billboard business I originally went to work for I even employed.
this time I was running two highway billboard construction crews, one billboard pain crew and the shop crew.
By the end of the third year I gave notice and left the company to build my own billboard company.
Once open in few months it took off like crazy before I knew it many of the accounts in the area started coming over to my company.
Not because I knew everyone, because I was honest and I turned
out a quality product with quality service.

What about the guy who dropped me off the first day I went to worked for the other company, you know the one who dropped me off beside the road no gloves, no
transportation, no water. The one who was supposed to stay and help me dig the holes???
Unbelievably I hired him after he lost his job with the other billboard company, yep, I hired him just so I could fire him. Don't let anyone tell you vengeance is not sweet, I drove over 188 miles just so I could tell him face to face "You Are Fired" (lol).
I built and sold my first business for seven figures after three years, that was a lot of money in the 60's, can you imagine what it would
have been equal to today?
Occasionally I drive by my old billboards many of them are still up, they have been cash flow machines for the past 48 years plus. You are right I should have never sold the.
The point is if a kid can start off
with less one hundred dollars in his pocket and end up with seven figures three years later 48 years ago, what can you do today?
Today it does not take much to turn a few billboards into a million dollar business, I have a client I found and built his first billboard for $286,000.00, he was offered 1.3 million dollars for it 2 months later. No, not all billboards do that but it happens more often than you may think.
